[You] Want to be a star, then be a star.
I think that realization came not long after I started, or tried to start, addressing current politics in my painting.
I realized there is something so fundamentally American about winning. Can you think of any part of the American identity that is not, at its core, a win or a triumph? What an academic or a proper historian would say is almost irrelevant. We’re in a moment of living realpolitik.
There’s no question about the ends justifying the means because there’s no question of means anymore, we live in an age of No Rules. Figuring out what you want is the focus, and go out and grab it. How to get there is just not interesting to us anymore. Want to be a star, then be a star.
